On May 7 (12:00 - 13:00) Associate Professor Kristian Hvidtfelt Nielsen from the Centre for Science Studies will visit CENSUS for a Brown Bag seminar.

In the early years of the Cold War, the USA sought to mobilise Greenland's strategic location by constructing several scientific and military bases there. Camp Century, also known as the ‘City under the Ice’, was built entirely inside the ice sheet from 1959–1960. A/Professor Kristian Hvidtfelt Nielsen will share and discuss his work on Camp Century. His research explores the role of the camp in US security policy, particularly the way it was used to project images of techno-scientific control, nuclear containment, and American values into Cold War American culture.

There will be plenty of time for discussion!

Join us in room 120 (Wiener) and bring your brown bag-lunch!
